BORDER - TIMES AND PROCEDURES

The Kosi Bay border to Mozambique generally opens and 08:00 and closes at 17:00 seven days a week.  During peak season the times are often changed to accommodate the influx of visitors.  Procedures at the border are effortless.  On arrival at the border, when routing to Mozambique, make sure you first visit the South African immigration office to obtain an exit stamp in your passport. You may now proceed to the Mozambiquan side for the immigration formalities.

An arrival form (obtainable at the border) has to be completed and submitted together with your passport to the immigration officials who will stamp your passport.

If you are traveling with your own 4x4 you will have to obtain a temporary import permit from the Mozambiquan customs office at the border.  For this you will require your vehicle registration documents as the information contained therein is required on the forms which must be completed.  Mozambiquan third party motor vehicle insurance is also compulsory.  This can be obtained at the border.  There are representatives from numerous insurance agencies at hand to assist with this.
